Thursday’s Tremendous Ten :: 9.2.10

Well, I'm back from a brief trip to California (post about that tomorrow). To hold you over, here's some Twnuggets for you. Can I say that -- twnuggets? Can't you just add "tw" to whatever you want and Twitterize the word? Anyway...

9 reasons why I started going steady with Twitter.

About a month ago, I started going steady with Twitter. You see, before I was doubling it up - checking Twitter and Facebook equally and even had the "auto-update" function set up so that whenever I tweeted, my Facebook page was updated simultaneously. But then, something happened. I realized that I'm more of a Twitter person. It was kind of like a "a-ha" moment. I turned off my auto-update, and started doing it. Here is a brief sampling of why.

9 reasons why I love Twitter right now more than Facebook:

  1. Twitter is simple: RT, Hashtags, @replies - that's pretty much it.
  2. Access to information: when we were planning our activities for our trip to Nashville, it was through my Twitter friends who gave us excellent recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Twitter is a great place for instant feedback and support if you ask the right questions.
  3. 140 character limit: by nature, you have to be more concise and direct. I like that.
  4. People like @ShaunKing can serve the people of Haiti.
  5. I can interact with strangers (with common interests) across the country: from Oregon to Oklahoma to Tennessee. Love it.
  6. It lets me pretend that I'm a geek: and we all know how much I like to pretend I'm a geek.
  7. You can follow and unfollow: if you don't like what someone is tweeting, its only natural to click the unfollow button. Eavesdropping on other Twitters is normal.
  8. Lets me talk to the people behind the blogs I read everyday: I love reading blogs and going deeper into what people are learning and sharing.
  9. News spreads quickly, and I tend to read about it here first: I could argue that I'll get news faster through Twitter than nearly any other source.

Keep in mind, I still feel there is a place in my life for Facebook. Nearly all of the people that I interact in real life (family, friends, church) are on Facebook (and conversely, not on Twitter). If I don't upload pictures to Facebook, my local family and extended family out of state will be sure to let me know. I like that Twitter is a space where almost anyone can interact with nearly everyone. Twitter and Facebook Are different communities and, right now in my life, I'm choosing Twitter more often.
