Ropa Vieja, Gelato, and Southern Rock
On Saturday, Jen and I got to spend some QT together - just the two of us. It was much needed as the past week we've been sick and busy in our house! After dropping off the kiddos at the 'rents, off we went! Jen didn't know what our plans were (I was surprised I could even keep it a secret), so it was fun just driving with her guessing the possibilities.
Our first stop was dinner at Las Palmeras - a small, hole in the wall Cuban restaurant in midtown. Just our kind of spot. Nothing too fancy, but great food! Jen got the Palomilla steak and I got the Ropa Vieja. Not only were the entrees great, but the sides were a highlight as well (the yuca was awesome).

My hot date for the night @ Las Palmeras.

The weather was great, so we were able to dine outside.
Our next stop was one of our favorite dessert stops - Paolo's Gelato. We love coming here because: 1) it's in Virginia Highlands, 2) the gelato is great, and 3) kinda feels like a tradition of ours. We didn't have a ton of time (see stop #3), but it was great to pick up some gelato and enjoy it!

As per usual, the line formed outside... it was worth the wait!

Our little dessert for the night
Our next and final stop was at Center Stage ATL for the NEEDTOBREATHE concert. We both are somewhat new to their music, but are familiar with some of their popular songs as we've covered them at church and have heard them on the radio. If you aren't familiar- check them out. Excellent southern rock, good lyrics, and definitely a fun show. Another highlight of the evening was one of the opening acts - Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers. We were pleasantly surprised, and thoroughly entertained by their performance as well.
We were not disappointed by NEEDTOBREATHE. Great show. Probably the highlight of the show was their final song of the night - Washed by the Water. They stripped down the sound and did an no-amplification, acoustic performance. Here is a video I took with my iphone.
We had an obsessed fan next to us at the concert; I was surprised she kept still/quiet for the most part during this final performance!
I must say: the concert was amazing, but the time spent with Jen was soooo much better!
